ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on Tuesday taken action against the channels airing Indian content and the traders selling illegal Indian Direct-to-Home (DTH) sets.
According to details PEMRA teams while taking action against 125 cable operators seized their illegal equipments. PEMRA Chairman Absar Alam during media briefing at PEMRA head quarter said that Pakistan Broad Casters Association has cooperated in this regard and stopped airing foreign content voluntarily but channels were violating PEMRA rules.
He said that soon inquiry would be completed against those channels which violated the PEMRA rules and would be shut down. He said that mafia in the country while using the DTH was transferring the billion of rupees in India illegally. He stated that PEMRA has find out the bank accounts which were using in this illegal transactions adding that 15 parties have submitted applications to get Pakistani DTH.
He said that soon Pakistani DTH license would be issued by open bid which would be started from Rs 200million to three parties. Answering a question Absar Alam said that recommendations in this regard have been forwarded to federal government requesting to deal with India as it deals our movies dramas and artists therefore we immediately stopped airing Indian content.
Absar warned Defence and Cantonments areas to remove Dish Antenna from their houses voluntarily otherwise they will also face legal action.
