ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) Enforcement Strategy – since its inception – has successfully recovered Rs 278 billion.
The bureau received 321,318 complaints which were all disposed-off according to law. The anti-corruption organisation has authorised 7124 inquiries, 3616 investigation and filed 2610 in respective Accountability Courts to proceed against allegedly corrupt people during the period. In short span of 16 years, the bureau’s performance is considered as record achievement with overall convictions of 76%.
The bureau, while tallying its achievements, said on Sunday that Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry – after assuming charge in 2013 – took several steps to eradicate corruption and corrupt practices which led to the establishment of National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS).
NAB’s NACS against corruption has been acknowledged by national and international organisations like Transparency International.
In 2014, NAB took various measures and initiatives to pursue corruption cases on merit without any fear and favour under the Enforcement Strategy – which proved very successful in 2015 so the existing management decided to continue this strategy in 2016 as well.
