JACOBABAD: “Residents of Jacobabad are willing to bring substantial improvement in their state of health and to address their water, sanitation and hygiene needs in a sustainable manner.” This was observed in a session on health awareness held in Jacobabad. The session was organized under the auspice of the City Forum to formulate ideas and practices to address the civic issues, including safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene. The Forum also noted that the people in general, were prepared to bring about a change in their outlook about healthcare and were willing to pay for safe drinking water and other basic services. Further, the Forum stressed upon the need of behavior change campaigns, social mobilization, and extensive capacity building movements to serve the areas of water, sanitation and hygiene for the residents. The project recommended that water charges should not be kept higher than Rs.500, It further proposed to initiate a solid waste management service with collaborated public sector efforts to improve quality of life in the city of Jacobabad. City Forum, in collaboration with UNICEF, UN-Habitat, and WaterAid, and funded by USAID, is working on WASH, a project to improve Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene to ensure better health for the people of Jacobabad.
