ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Taimur Talpur on Thursday appeared in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and retracted his claim regarding horse-trading in Senate polls.
During his appearance, Talpur said that his statement was taken out of context. He also demanded constitutional protection.
Meanwhile, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) sought a written reply from the PPP leader.
Earlier, in a startling revelation, PPP lawmaker Taimur Talpur had confessed to horse-trading in the Senate elections in the huddle of the Sindh Assembly.
Taimur said, “Senate polls witnessed horse-trading. The member who sold his vote to Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is also sitting in the House”.
“We made a commitment that we will not ever discuss this,” he said.
Soon after these remarks, a ruckus erupted in Sindh Assembly as opposition lawmakers staged a protest and urged the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Saqib Nisar to take a suo motu notice and initiate a thorough probe into the matter.
After the Senate polls earlier this year, the PML-N had accused PTI of selling their votes to PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, while terming PPP and PTI two sides of the same coin.
