Sindh on Wednesday recorded more than 1,300 Covid-19 cases in a day for the second consecutive day, with 933 cases from Karachi.
“We have reported 1,348 virus cases within the last 24 hours after performing 12,159 tests,” Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah said during a routine briefing on Covid-19.
“Eight Covid-19 patients lost their lives during the past 24 hours, raising the provincial death toll from the virus to 2,864,” he said. He said that currently 16,953 Covid-19 patients are being treated in the province of which 641 are said to be in critical condition including 58 of them on ventilators.
“A total of 607 patients have recovered from Covid-19 during the past 24 hours,” Murad Ali Shah said. Sharing details of cases reported from districts in Karachi, the chief minister said that district South reported most of the cases, 343, followed by 338 cases in district East, 92 in district Central, 83 in Malir, 52 in Korangi and 25 cases in district West.
The government and private hospitals in Karachi have overall 451 ICU beds with ventilators, Sindh Health Department said in a statement on Wednesday. In overall 31 government and private hospitals of the city, 58 patients have been on ventilators, the health department stated.
Moreover, 177 coronavirus patients have been admitted at hospitals without requiring support of ventilators. The city’s hospitals have overall 1534 ICU beds, according to the health department.
“Two patients have been on ventilator in Civil Hospital, seven at the Trauma Centre and four patients at the Jinnah Hospital,” according to the statement.
Moreover, five patients have been on ventilators at Lyari General Hospital, 17 patients at Infectious Disease Hospital and Research Centre in Gulshan Iqbal and four patients at Liaquat National Hospital, the health department further stated.
The city’s Aga Khan Hospital has nine patients getting assistance from ventilators, three patients at Ziauddin Hospital’s Clifton branch, two patients at OMI hospital and one at the Patel Hospital, the health department said.
It is to be mentioned here that the second wave of COVID-19 is raging in Pakistan with an increasing number of cases of the infectious disease. Karachi, the largest city of Pakistan, has reported maximum cases of coronavirus in the second spike of the disease, which is being termed more lethal than the previous phase.
Meanwhile, the district administration in Hyderabad has ordered immediate implementation of the instructions of the Sindh Home Department to contain the spike of Covid-19 cases in the city.
The deputy commissioner Hyderabad in a circular to the assistant commissioners, ordered strict enforcement of the notification issued by the home department. Local officials have been directed to act against the citizens violating the face masks condition for going out of homes.
The timing for the outdoor wedding functions in Hyderabad has also been restricted to 9:00pm with instructions that the guests should be served meals in food boxes. All business centres and markets should be closed by 6:00 in the evening, according to the order.
